Description
The film begins with outdoor shots of the Gandantegchinlen Buddhist monastery which was built in 1809 in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia.
On either side to the entrance to the first courtyard of the monastery, there is a statue of a lion.
lions; the fencing includes railings and pillars with the head of the Buddha.
Directly in the centre of the inner courtyard is a construction, called the Umbrella, symbolising the protection provided by the Buddha. Visitors and pilgrims in the courtyard.
The monastery is well-known particularly for its enormous 26.5-metre statue of the Buddha.
The Tibetan name of the monastery translates to the "Great Place of Complete Joy".

The Mongols became Buddhists some centuries ago and lost their warlike ways. But today there is only one working Buddhist temple left, the Gandantegchinlen Temple which you see here.
